LOOK! LEGO’s first Sesame Street set designed by Filipino commercial director Ivan Guerrero is scheduled for worldwide release in November.
Guerrero initially submitted the design on LEGO Ideas back in October 2017. The design received 10,000 votes in 2019 from supporters and fellow Muppets fans which sent the idea for review by the toy bricks panel for possible adoption as a LEGO toy.
The Filipino filmmaker, a longtime fan of the children’s show, recreated the Sesame Street building for several months based on old New York apartment buildings from the 1960s and 1970s.
“I grew up on Sesame Street. The show was one of my first teachers. It taught me how to read, write, count and laugh…as 2019 is the 50th anniversary of Sesame Street, I figured it was a great time to create a LEGO set that celebrated the show’s history and long legacy of playing and learning,” Guerrero told LEGO Ideas in an interview.
“When you share your design with world, you should expect to get a variety of reactions from people. Some people may praise you and some people may critique you. Never let criticism get you down. It’s important to learn how to take criticism, and use it to make improvements to your design or concept,” Guerrero said, sharing his advice for aspiring creators.
The LEGO creation from Guerrero is composed of 1,367 brick pieces, reveals a new look at the world of Sesame Street, and features five minifigures of beloved Sesame Street muppets including Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Bert, and Ernie.
Ivan Guerrero’s 123 Sesame Street LEGO playset will be sold worldwide on November 1, 2020.
The Filipino director currently has three projects in three different stages on LEGO Ideas. His new LEGO set based on James Cameron’s Avatar only needs 300 votes to get to 10,000 supporters.
You can still vote for Ivan Guerrero’s Avatar: The Illuminated World of Pandora product idea on the LEGO Ideas community website.
Ivan Guerrero is the second Filipino to receive the Danish toymaker’s approval, after Leandro Tayag’s fan design for Voltron which was adopted by LEGO in 2017.
Poised to possibly become the third Filipino-designed LEGO toy is the idea of UK-based radiographer Apollo Exconde. His LEGO toy Open MRI idea recently reached a milestone of 10,000 supporters that sent the medical toy design for review to have the idea turned into reality by the toy bricks manufacturer.
SEND CONGRATULATIONS in the comments below to Filipino Ivan Guerrero for the upcoming worldwide release of his design for LEGO’s First Sesame Street set.
