The Philippines’ Jollibee Chickenjoy has been ranked fourth in the Best Fast-Food Fried Chicken list released by American Magazine Redbook, surpassing other U.S. fast-food giants like Shake Shack, McDonald’s, and KFC.
Redbook’s article, published on October 14, 2020, called the Filipino fast-food fried chicken chain the one “that’s about to take over the United States.” It linked subscribers to a New York Times Critic’s Pick rave review heralding the chain’s first Manhattan location which opened in October of 2018.
“The pleasures of Chickenjoy, as it’s called, are immediate: The sheath of skin is as craggy as a thunderhead, crannies and crunch multiplying,” the New York Times wrote. Aside from the food chain’s marquee item, Redbook also praised Jollibee’s mouth-watering selection of Filipino side dishes which were “unrivaled by any competitor” on the Redbook list.
“Chickenjoy with a side of the famed Jolly Spaghetti…grab a Peach Mango Pie or Halo-Halo for dessert. Yes, all of this is available, and actually good, at a fast food chain,” the US-based magazine said.
Homegrown Philippine restaurant Jollibee’s world-famous chicken has already received much international praise. Chickenjoy earlier made it to top 3 in America’s best fast-food fried chicken list released by FoodBeast in the United States.
Tony Tan Caktiong, the Filipino billionaire behind the successful franchise, founded the fast-food chain Jollibee in 1978, after initially starting out with a small ice cream parlor in 1975.
Today, the famed Filipino fast-food chain is taking the world by storm. According to Jollibee, they now have over 1,200 branches worldwide.
The food chain is now available in more locations in Canada, the United States, and Italy’s Milan and Rome near Vatican City, among others.
