Rhea Santos now leads former ABS-CBN reporters in a Canadian TV program that provides Filipino news and information.
The former GMA Kapuso broadcast journalist teamed up with former ABS-CBN reporters Ron Gagalac and Marieton Pacheco, along with Filipino broadcast journalists Andy Aquino, Arvin Joaquin, Paula Saraza and Theresa Redula, and Theresa Barrera for the Filipino newscast of Canadian television broadcaster, OMNI Television.
The former “Unang Hirit” and “Tunay na Buhay” host, who spent 19 years in the Philippine broadcast industry via GMA Network before moving to the Vancouver, Canada in August 2019 to study at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, shared the exciting news on September 2, 2020 (Philippine Time).
“Marking this day that I’m able to do my passion to tell stories that matter to my ‘kababayan’ here in Canada,” the award-winning Filipina journalist wrote on her Instagram post that came with a photo of her anchoring the show.
She went on: “You will all meet the Filipino team of OMNI News in the coming days. It’s not only Filipinos and Fil-Canadian journalists making this possible.
“A big part are the Canadians and people of diverse backgrounds whom I’m given the opportunity to work with that make OMNI News Filipino Edition happen.”
Meanwhile, in March this year, international broadcast journalist Rico Hizon returned to local TV as the senior anchor at CNN Philippines after 25 years overseas delivering the news for global news corporations, BBC News, and CNBC.
