The Philippines’ karate champion James De Los Santos beat the world’s top 1 virtual kata from Portugal as he picked up his fourth gold in an online tourney.
The 30-year-old Pinoy karateka joined the recently joined the Athlete’s E-Tournament Series 1 and emerged champion under the Individual Male Seniors category after beating the top-ranked Eduardo Garcia of Portugal.
“Victorious! I won my fourth virtual gold!,” Delos Santos announced on his Facebook post on August 12, 2020.
The country’s bet first defeated representatives from the U.S.A. and Bolivia during the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, to advance to the final round of the competition.
James De Los Santos, who is currently in World No. 2, is eager to claim the no. 1 spot in the world kata rankings.
“The final round was against Portugal,” the Filipino athlete shared. “This was the third time I faced him, and it’s been competitive. This was special as he’s No. 1 and I’m No. 2 in the world rankings for the E-Tournaments. This time, I was able to win the gold medal.”
This is the second gold win for Delos Santos for the month of August alone, and his fourth since he joined the virtual tilt during this period of global lockdown where mass gatherings, including sporting events, are not permitted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The unstoppable De Los Santos reaped gold medals at Balkan Open E-Tournament held from July 23 to August 2, E-Tournament Korokotta Cup 2020 from June 19 to 29, and at the Palestine International Karate Cup held scheduled from May 12 to 24.
He also won silver at the Adidas Karate World Open Series 2020 on July 22 and a bronze medal at the 1st Dutch Open E-Tournament slated from June 22 to 30.
