Modern-day heroic Filipino frontliners were honored in a Philippine Independence Day video released by the Department of Tourism on June 12, 2020.
The video marked the 122nd Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence declared by revolutionary forces in the war against Spanish colonizers.
The 2020 commemoration of Independence Day in the Philippines and around the world has been dedicated to Filipino frontliners battling the coronavirus pandemic.
“We recognize and pay tribute to our modern-day heroes who are taking care of the world. In these challenging times, our hearts go out to the Filipinos abroad who are at the forefront of this pandemic,” DOT Facebook captioned the video which was also posted on other official sites.
The DOT video runs for over two minutes and shows news and online footage of Filipino frontliners around the world, along with messages of gratitude and encouragement addressed to Filipinos and delivered by various nationalities.
The Good Light Message of Hope campaign of Good News Pilipinas and the Liter of Light which pays tribute to good deeds amid the lockdown with messages of hope lit up with solar lamps was featured on the video.
“We Will Survive”, a message of hope from 10-year Agnes Hannah Q. Balibay who donated to the University of the Philippine Bayanihan Na! Operations Center was featured. Check out more Good Light Messages of Hope in this link.
Also featured were the stories of Piers Morgan of Good Morning Britain thanking Filipino nurses in the UK Health System, Game of Thrones star Miltos Yerolemou who thanked Filipino medical workers in Manila, and the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro lit up with the Philippine flag and the Filipino word “PAG-ASA (Hope)“.
The popular song “Noypi” originally performed by Bamboo was covered by Katerina Silvestre with Becca Silvestre and Patricia Brillantes-Silvestre and used as the soundtrack of the video.
In Kawit, Cavite, site of the Proclamation of Independence on June 12, 1898, National Historical Commission of the Philippines’ Commissioner Emmanuel Calairo praised the discipline shown by Filipinos during the day’s rites which were turned into simpler rites in compliance with health and safety guidelines of the community quarantine.
