Filipino-American musician Francisco Martin made the judges and audiences swoon over him as he performed from home as the American Idol Top 10 show aired on Monday morning (Philippine Time).
The 19-year-old heartthrob from Daly City in San Francisco was revealed as having made it to the Top 10 of the American singing competition via online streaming and ABC television on May 3, 2020 (May 4 in the Philippines).
Francisco Martin sang “Falling Like The Stars” by James Arthur for judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Katy Perry who were also watching from their respective homes.
Perry was seen crying after Martin’s performance, saying “it was real believability and I felt it”, a seeming response to AI mentor Bobby Jones’ earlier declaration that if Martin delivered believability then he would go through the next round.
Bryan again affirmed his belief in Francisco saying, “You are a diamond in the rough. You really know how to get all the emotion out of a song” and clapped for him.
Martin’s Filipina mother Fatima, a first responder nurse, received a shoutout from judge Richie as he said he saw the musician “fly out of that nervousness and give us exactly what you’re all about which is true talent.” Richie was referring to Martin’s nervous bouts during his stunning performances from his audition to the live shows.
Francisco Martin impressed the AI judges with his Top 20 “Teenage Dream” song as his first performance from home last week when the show turned to home-based streaming following the enforcement of community quarantine.
Francisco Martin aims to get through to the AI Top 7 next week with votes on the American Idol website here, its mobile app, and text vote.
