An Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Italy who was unable to go home due to the lockdown, instead used his travel fund to send relief goods to the Philippines.
Larry Ceria planned to have his vacation in the Philippines but was unable to go home amidst measures to stop the global spread of the coronavirus disease.
He instead sent the money that he saved to buy plane tickets to his relatives in the Philippines for them to buy sacks of rice for donation to 30 barangays in his hometown of Magsingal, Ilocos Sur.
Ceria said in Ilocano that he was not expecting anything back for his good deed and asked everyone to be safe and to pray to God for protection against the virus.
“DONE MY MISSION OF SHARING BIGAS TO ALL 30 BARANGAYS OF MY HOMETOWN MAGSINGAL,
AWAN TI DAWDAWATEK NGA KASUKAT WENNO PANAGYAMAN YO APPO NGA KAILYAK TA VOLUNTARYO KEN NAIMPAPUSUAN NGA NAGGAPO TI PUSOK KEN TI PAMILYAK DAYTOY NGA INARAMIDKO.ANUSANYO LANG DIAY ADDA NGA NABAELANMI.KUMARARAG TAYO KEN APO KEN AGANNAD TAYO AMIN, NI APO DIOS TI MANGILISI KADATAYO KADAYTOY NGA VIRUS.GOD BLESS MAGSINGAL!!!,” Ceria said in his Facebook post on April 1, 2020.
(Wala akong hinihingi na kapalit o pasasalamat sa inyo aking mga kababayan dahil boluntaryo at mula sa kaibuturan ng aking puso at ng aking pamilya. Pagtiyagaan na lang kung ano ang aming nakayanan. Magdasal tayo at mag ingat tayong lahat. Ang Diyos ang magliligtas sa atin sa virus na ito.)
More ordinary Filipinos are doing their share to help relief efforts in the battle against COVID-19. Among them, Mang Boyong, a Taho Vendor who gave up his daily income to feed the checkpoint personnel, UP Visayas students stranded in the dorms making the most of their time making face shields for Iloilo health workers, the Lend-A-Bike project of Carlo Carlon a.k.a. The Cyclelogist, and restaurant owners giving free food to health workers.
SEND CHEERS in the comments below to OFW Larry Ceria for helping out his hometown even as he is also affected by the global public health crisis.
