Philippine Science High School (PSHS) opened its Quezon City campus to help patients and employees of the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) avoid long travel.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) announced that the state science high school campus will be used as a temporary house for the health workers and frontliners who are unable to go home due to the community quarantine to stop the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
According to Lawrence Madriaga, campus director of PSHS main campus, the school’s Board of Trustees decided to help and lend their gymnasium to the health workers of PCMC. They also assured everyone that they will maintain the cleanliness of the facilities that will be used.
“We are in the midst of a health crisis that is possibly the worst in our history and allowing a part of the campus to be used by PCMC is our way of contributing to the fight against COVID-19, on top of what our colleagues are already doing now,” Madriaga said.
A PSHS statement also reported that the faculty members and staff of 8 PSHS campuses across the country are making face shields for medical workers and other frontliners in the fight against COVID-19.
Meantime, De La Salle University (DLSU) and Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) alumni have joined together to raise 10.5 million pesos to support the Bayanihan Musikahan fundraiser for the urban poor affected by the community quarantine to stop the spread of COVID-19.
An IT team led by the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tech DWARM Technologies and the Department of Science and Technology Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) and UPSCALE Innovation Hub have developed an AI Drone Thermal Scanner that is being readied for pilot testing in Quezon City and Caloocan City within April.
The Philippine Robotics National Team of Dr. Yanga’s Colleges Inc. (DYCI) in Bulacan has created LEGO automated robot alcohol dispensers to help people with proper handwashing techniques while in the frontlines of the fight against COVID-19.
SEND CHEERS in the comments below to PSHS for opening its facilities to health workers and patients battling COVID-19.
