Good Morning Britain TV host Piers Morgan gave a shoutout to Filipino nurses working in the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS) to fight the coronavirus disease.
In the clip uploaded on Good Morning Britain’s Twitter on April 7, 2020, the British broadcaster was seen praising and recognizing the hard work of Filipino nurses who are working in their country.
“Amazing number of Filipinos work in our NHS. Unsung heroes like so many. I just wanna give them a shoutout,” Morgan said in the breakfast television show.
“Thank you to all the Filipinos who are doing all these amazing work,” he added.
Morgan also thanked every immigrant who is working in the NHS.
“It’s worth bearing in mind when we talk about immigrants in this country, these are the immigrants currently saving people’s lives. Coming here and actually enriching our country and doing an amazing job,” he said.
Twitter users applauded Morgan for acknowledging the value of immigrants to UK.
“Thank you @piersmorgan for honoring the Filipino nurses in UK, on Good Morning Britain. Indeed, they are unsung heroes in the battle against Covid-19,” @ae02_scarforrj tweeted.
“Thank you @piersmorgan. I’m a Filipino who has a sister that works as a nurse in the UK. I made her watch this and said she’s very thankful for you on recognizing their hardwork as one of the frontliners. We wish you the best and for everyone as well. Stay home, stay safe! Flag of Philippines,” @vmin_promise95 wrote in a tweet.
Bakehouse Cottage aka Helen @Bakehouse2016 replied to the GMB post saying, “I am overjoyed that Piers Morgan is speaking out for our amazing immigrants. Please @piersmorgan don’t forget all the other work that our immigrants do in our society, not least of which is working on our farms & in the production of our food.”
Angie @Angieeclectic wanted better treatment of immigrants saying, “Exactly and perhaps instead of the Home Office harassing them with threats of deportation and complicated form filling, they could be offered permanent settled status and allowed to live among us in peace.”
Dr Benjamin Janaway @drjanaway commended Morgan’s statements, tweeting, “Solid comments Piers. Thank you”
Catherine Finnecy @cfinnecy reminded Morgan, “Yes they were technically also keeping us alive a few months ago too but I’m glad Piers has caught up with the situation at last.”
Filipino Radiographer Apollo Exconde won London’s Croydon incredible customer service award in 2019, showcasing the Filipino care for patients.
Filipino nurses in Saudi Arabia were also praised by The Saudi Pinoy vlogger Ahmed Alruwaili who made video tributes to OFWs and nurses in the frontlines of the global health crisis.
To inspire their fellow frontliners in the fight against COVID-19, the University of the Philippines doctors sang the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) Hymn and released the video on social media.
