The University of the Philippines – Philippine General Hospital (UP PGH) has opened its COVID-19 Operations Center Hotline for patients, donors, and volunteers.
Bayanihan Na! UP-PGH COVID-19 Operations Center Hotline 155-200 was opened March 30, 2020, to answer questions related to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from patients as well as donors and volunteers.
The UP PGH COVID-19 Hotline is currently manned by 60-70 student volunteers in three shifts. The Ops Center is welcoming around 20 to 30 more volunteers to take calls on 20 hotlines working 24/7.
The UP-PGH COVID-19 Hotline 155-200 is toll-free when using Philippine landlines.
Callers can use either Filipino or English. For other local languages or dialects, callers are encouraged to ask for a volunteer who can speak it.
UP-PGH COVID-19 Hotline was launched just 13 days after it was initially discussed by UP President Danilo Concepcion, UP Manila (UPM) Chancellor Carmencita Padilla, and UP-PGH Director Gerardo Legaspi; and only a week after UP’s acceptance of UP-PGH’s designation and responsibility as a COVID-19 referral center.
UP-PGH COVID-19 Bayanihan Operations Center is a partnership between UP-PGH and PLDT, which provided the phone lines for the hotline, and the PGH Medical Foundation Inc. (PGHMFI), which facilitates donations.
The University is housing the Ops Center at the Nurses Home within the UPM compound, separate from the UP-PGH.
UP’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic also includes the development of the COVID-19 test kits developed by the University of the Philippines National Institutes of Health (UP NIH) scientists which are being readied for manufacturing.
Over 100 student interns at the University of the Philippines-run Philippine General Hospital (PGH) have stayed on duty to help health workers care for patients, despite being allowed to go home during the Luzon-wide quarantine to stop the spread of COVID-19.
