Filipino actress Mara Lopez won her first international award as Best Supporting Actress in a foreign language film at the 2020 North Europe International Film Festival (IFF) in London.
Lopez won the acting award for her performance as Beth in the film “Jesusa” in the prestigious North Europe film festival held from February 16-21, 2020.
Lopez posted a picture of her at the London awards on her Facebook account and thanked director-writer Ronaldo C. Carballo and the whole team of Jesusa.

The film tells the story of Jesusa (played by Sylvia Sanchez), “a barren woman who comes to her wit’s end when her philandering husband moves in with his latest mistress. Left only with her stepdaughters, she succumbs to the sordid ways of the neighborhood drug addicts.”
Jesusa runs for 1 hour and 55 mins and premiered at the 2019 Sinag Maynila Film Festival.
Mara Lopez and RK Bagatsing’s Filipino independent film K’na the Dreamweaver, written and directed by Ida del Mundo, was screened as the Gala Film in the opening of the 2019 Native Spirit Film Festival in October 2019 in London.
Another Filipino short film, “Basurero” starring ABS-CBN Kapamilya actor Jericho Rosales, also recently successfully made the official selection of Finland’s Tampere Film Festival while American-Indian Ben Rekhi’s acclaimed film “Watch List” starring a Filipino cast led by Alessandra de Rossi and is now screening in Philippine cinemas.
