Nueva Viscaya State University IT experts are helping farmers promote and sell their products nationwide through the newly developed NVKROPS e-commerce platform.
The NVKROPS online platform allows customers to check the availability of agricultural products along with a price list of these products.
The e-commerce project can also assist farmers using the planting calendar to help them with on-time harvest for better prices of fruits and vegetables.
NVKROPS was developed by Nueva Viscaya State University to help increase the profitability of farmers’ harvests in Bangbang, Nueva Viscaya. The project is part of the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) three innovation projects in the province which started January 29, 2020.
Another project is the specially-designed transport packaging box developed by the Industrial Technology Developement Insitute (DOST-ITDI) which was immediately turned over to Nueva Viscaya Agricultural Terminal, Inc. (NVAT) in order to maintain the freshness of the agricultural products during transport.
The third project is the proposed “ProbinsyaMart”, a state of the art post-harvest facility that includes a quality assurance laboratory, a multi-temperature warehouse, as well as a post-harvest area for sorting, cleaning, and packaging.
The projects which aim for the reduction of food wastes from improper packaging and handling was made possible by the memorandum of agreement signed by the Leaders of the Lina Group of Companies (LLGC) and NVAT.
DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations Brenda L. Nazareth-Manzano, who represented DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña during the official inauguration of the NVKROPS online marketing platform and the groundbreaking ceremony of ProbinsyaMart, expressed her support for the projects initiated by the DOST – Region 2 through the leadership of DOST-Region II Regional Director Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang.
Other projects by Filipino innovators that help farmers sell their harvest at fair trade prices include the online portal “E-Magsasaka” which was declared champion of the Asian Institute of Management at the East-West Seed’s Innovation Olympics back in 2018 and the Baguio-based online store “Session Groceries” which relaunched in February 2019.
