The Pinoy version of Korean hit series “Descendants of the Sun” has captured the hearts of the Filipino audience and the top spot on Twitter and Google Trends during the airing of its pilot episode on Monday night.
The GMA Network Kapuso primetime series’ official hashtag: #DescendantsoftheSunPh claimed the top spot in the Philippines and the second spot in worldwide trends on Twitter and was the most searched topic in the Philippines on Google Trends.
The first episode of the much-anticipated local version of the hit South Korean TV show starring Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo earned positive reactions and comments among fans and netizens for staying faithful to the original K-Drama series’ iconic scenes while injecting a uniquely Filipino treatment.
GMA Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes, who plays the lead role of soldier Big Boss Lucas Manalo, is paired up with multi-awarded singer-actress Jennylyn Mercado who portrays the character of Dr. Maxine Dela Cruz in the series that first aired on February 10, 2020.
Dantes, together with his Team Alpha, underwent training with special forces to properly portray their characters as soldiers.
Also part of the cast as second leads are Write About Love star Rocco Nacino and Sahaya actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith.
