Cebu’ s Dottie Ardina has won the Australian Ladies Professional Golf (ALPG) Ballarat Icons Pro-Am Tournament held in Australia, giving her a lead as she goes into the final two events of the ALPG Club Car Series.
The Filipina ALPG Ballarat Icons 2020 Champion will go into the Australian Ladies Classic Bonville and the Women’s NSW Open with a 400-point lead over 4 other Top 5 placers in the ongoing tourney.
The 26-year-old professional golfer from the Philippines made a 3-foot birdie putt to win against Janet Lin and Kylie Henry in a three-way play off held at the Ballarat Golf Club on February 2, 2020.
“A tie for first at the end of play, saw Dotti Ardina, Janet Lin and Kylie Henry in a playoff at -5. The first playoff hole was back down the 18th and Dottie hit an amazing shot to about 3tft, with Lin and Henry making Par, it left Dotti to tap in the 3ft birdie putt to win,” reported by Ballarat Golf Club.
The Cebuana golfer’s victory is a fitting come back as she suffered back-to-back losses in earlier tourneys.
“Ardina has been in outstanding form since arriving in Australia just under three weeks ago. The Philippine star finished 3rd at the ALPG Qualifying Tournament, 19th at the Windaroo Lakes GC ALPG Pro-am, 7th at the Findex Yamba Pro-am, 2nd at the Aoyuan International Moss Vale Pro-am after losing in a sudden-death playoff, before finally getting across the line to win in Ballarat,” reported the ALPG.
ALPG runs 8-10 various professional events from January – March each year.
The Ballarat Golf Club has a long and proud history spanning back to 1895 as Australia’s oldest continually played course. The championship course has been redesigned by Thomson Perret and provides an outstanding experience for golfers of all levels. The course has ranked amongst the top 100 public access courses in Australia by Golf Australia magazine in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017 and achieved rankings in Aus Golf’s Top 100 Best Conditions and Course lists in 2017.
Filipino athletes started strong in the year 2020, among them is the Philippines’ teen tennis star Alexandra “Alex” Eala who became the first Filipina to win a Grand Slam title at the Australian Open after she and Indonesian tennis partner Priska Madelyn Nugroho beat Slovenia’s Ziva Falkner and Great Britain’s Matilda Mutavdzic in the Australian Open Finals, 6-1, 6-2, in the competition held at the Melbourne Park to claim the 2020 Australian Open Junior Girls’ Doubles Title in January.
Also in January, Cavite’s Jaja Santiago made history as the first Filipina athlete to win bronze at the Japanese Volleyball Premiere League.
Mixed martial arts champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio successfully defended his ONE Strawweight World Championship belt in the Manila event held in February that also saw sterling wins from the Baguio-based Team Lakay stable with Danny “The King” Kingad, Lito “Thunder Kid” Adiwang, and Gina ” Conviction” Iniong.
