Typhoon Tisoy (Kammuri) did not stop Team Philippines’ gold-silver-bronze medal haul in the 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).
On Day 3, there were six golds from wushu, arnis’ two more golds, and another one from gymnast Carlos Yulo in the floor exercise – keeping the Philippines on top of the medal standings with a total of 92 medals.
WUSHU
Wushu star Agatha Wong opened the Philippines Day 3 medal campaign with a top spot finish. Wong became the first Pinoy athlete to win two individual gold medals at the 2019 SEA Games by adding the Taolu Taijijian crown to her Taijiquan Day 1 feat at the World Trade Center in Manila.
The Sanda squad of 2018 Asian Games bronze medalist Divine Wally (48kg-women’s), Jessie Aligaga (48kg-men’s), Francisco Solis (56kg), Arnel Mandal (52kg), and Clemente Tabugaga Jr. (65kg) won all but one of the six gold medals for a near-sweep of the competition.
ARNIS
The Arnis warriors won two more golds in the Anyo (form) competitions to wrap up their campaign with a total of 14 golds at the Angeles University Foundation in Pampanga.
The golds were won by Crisamuel Delfin in the men’s event and Mary Allin Aldeguer in the women’s non-traditional open weapon.
Delfin, 25, tallied 9.83 to beat Ngo Van Huynh of Vietnam (9.7) for the gold, while Aldeguer, 21, also beat a Vietnam foe in Trieu Thi Hoai, 9.63-9.57, to make it a sweep for the host.
GYMNASTICS
In Gymnastics, world champion Carlos Yulo bagged his second gold in the Floor Exercise – the same event for which he won a historic gold as the first Filipino and Southeast Asian to win in the World Gymnastics Championships in Stuttgart, Germany held in October.
The Filipino gymnast, who has qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, won his first SEA Games gold in the Men’s All-Around Event on Day 1 of the competitions.
The 19-year-old also won two silvers in the pommel horse and still rings during the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics finals held at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

On the third day of the competition, the Filipinos continued to pull away from the rest of the field with a total of 47 gold, 29 silver, and 16 bronze medals.
Vietnam was a far second with 22 gold, 26 silver, and 24 bronze medals, while Indonesia finally made its move and jumped to third place with a 12-18-17 tally.
Malaysia (12-3-11) was relegated to fourth, followed by Thailand (7-13-19).
In lawn bowls, the Philippines beat Brunei, 23-11, in the preliminaries of the triple’s women, while the men’s baseball team blanked Cambodia, 12-0, to remain unbeaten.
In softball, the Blu Boys nipped Indonesia, 7-3, while the Blu Girls routed the Indons, 11-1.
A total of 56 gold SEA Games medals are at stake on Wednesday, including seven in the swimming competition that will start at the New Clark City Aquatics Center in Capas, Tarlac.
The 30th SEA Games in the Philippines will run until December 11, 2019, in four sports hubs, namely, in Manila, Southern Luzon and La Union, Subic, and at the New Clark City.
