Filipino dancesport duo Michael Angelo Marquez and Stephanie Sabalo successfully raised the Philippine flag in Lithuania after winning the silver medal at the 2019 Kaunas Open.
The Pinoy ballroom dancers shined among the contestants from 18 countries and were hailed as the international tilt’s 1st Runner-Up in the Rising Stars Latin Open category of the World Dancesport Federation competitions held November 16-17 in Garliava, Kaunas.
Here are the winners of the 2019 Kaunas Open Rising Stars Latin Open category:
Gold – Tarjei Noestvoid Svalastog and Anna Caroline Fladby, Norway
Silver – Michael Angelo Marquez and Stephanie Sabalo, Philippines
Bronze – Kristo Kama and Mariann Hendrikson, Estonia
Marquez and Sabalo have been competing for the Philippines in various international dancesport competitions. This year, the duo had successful stints in France, Germany, Thailand, Vietnam, Italy, and Japan for the Asian Dancesport Games 2019 where they won three medals – 2 golds for Jive and Pasodoble, and 1 silver for Chachacha.
Michael Angelo Marquez and Stephanie Sabalo will represent the Philippines in the dancesport competition as it returns to the Southeast Asian Games 2019 on December 1 at Royce Hotel in Clark, Pampanga.
