The Philippines, through the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS), is advocating disaster-preparedness and is joining the Tsunami awareness campaign on November 5 – a day designated by the United Nations in 2015 as the World Tsunami Awareness Day (WTAD).
Good News Pilipinas supports the DOST-PHILVOLCS call to spread the following information to the public:
Tsunamis can be produced by other natural phenomena like underwater landslides, volcanic eruptions, and meteorite impacts. But because the Philippines is located on the so-called “Pacific Ring of Fire”, we are prone to numerous earthquakes, which in turn can generate tsunamis.
These tsunamis can be destructive to our coastal areas and can affect the lives of our fellow Filipinos.
For this reason, as a strong advocate of tsunami awareness, preparedness, and mitigation, the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) enjoins you to partner with us in the promotion of the observance of WTAD 2019. We ask you to help us spread correct information and awareness regarding tsunamis.
We encourage everyone to use the hashtags: #WTAD2019 #TsunamiDay #HandaAngMayAlam #BuildToLast
