Filipino gymnast Carlos Edriel “Caloy” Yulo has successfully secured a berth in the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan.
Yulo’s Japanese coach Munehiro Kugimiya confirmed on his social media
the Olympics qualification of the Philippines’ top gymnast.
“He (Carlos Yulo) is going to go finals all around and FX (floor exercise).
And also we got rights for Olympics 2020 in Tokyo, today,” Kugimiya said in his post on October 7 (October 8 Philippine time).
The multi-medalist Pinoy dynamo was the lone Filipino among the 12 athletes who qualified for the biggest quadrennial sporting event through the 2019 International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany.
Yulo earned a total output of 82.164 points to grab the 16th spot in the
individual all-around qualification out of 20 Olympic qualifiers from 14 countries.

Caloy Yulo has been winning medals for his exemplary gymnastic prowess in different competitions around the world.
Yulo bagged his first gold medal as senior gymnast in the Men’s Floor Exercise at the at the 2019 World Cup Gymnastics Finals held in Melbourne, Australia in February.
In March, the Filipino medalist from Pasay City also snagged a bronze medal after securing the third spot of the Men’s Floor Exercise Finals at the 2019 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Doha, Qatar.
The 19-year-old gymnast is the Philippines’ second athlete to qualify for the world’s biggest sporting event to be held in Japan next year.
Just this September, Pinoy champion pole vaulter Ernest John “EJ” Obiena secured a slot for the Olympics after clearing 5.81 meters in the Men’s Pole Vault competition of the Salto Con L’asta In Piazza Chiari 2019 in Italy.
Obiena also made history for being the first Filipino pole vault athlete to make it to the Top 10 of the World Rankings for Men’s Pole Vault of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
