The blockbuster tandem of Alden Richards and Kathryn Bernardo in the film “Hello, Love, Goodbye” is set to premiere in Seoul at the 1st Korea Pinoy International Film Festival (KPIFF) this September.
Alden Richards, who just received his Asian Star Prize from the 14th Seoul International Drama Awards on August 28, invited “kababayans,” fans, and film enthusiasts to watch the KathDen movie when it premieres in South Korea during a special screening on September 28-29, 2019 at the Arirang Cine Center in Seoul.
In his acceptance speech delivered during the awarding ceremonies held at the Hall of Peace in Kyunghee University and broadcast live over KBS TV, Richards noted the timing of the recognition given to him at the annual Korean drama awards.
“This award is extra special because it comes at a time when we are celebrating 70 years of friendship between the Philippines and South Korea,” Richards said.
The Alden Richards and Kathryn Bernardo world blockbuster film, “Hello, Love, Goodbye,” coincidentally premieres in Seoul during the 1st Korea Pinoy International Film Festival organized in commemoration of the 70th year of Korea and Philippines bilateral relations. KPIFF partnered with TFC International for the special screening.
Organized by the Pinoy Artists in Korea led by multi-awarded filmmaker and social entrepreneur Nash Ang, who recently seen on Song Joong Ki’s Arthdal Chronicles and was involved in the use of the Philippines’ Tausug language in the same series, the KPIFF is also part of the celebration of the 100 Years of Philippine Cinema.
Good News Pilipinas talked to KPIFF 2019 festival director Nash Ang after Alden Richards received his award in Seoul.
Good News Pilipinas (GNP): How is KPIFF valuing this Korean recognition for Alden Richards and the inclusion of his KathDen movie in the festival lineup?
Nash Ang (NA): Pinagtitibay ng parangal kay Alden na pang world class ang talentong Pinoy. Ang kanyang blockbuster hit film ay siguradong tutusok sa puso ng mga OFWs sa Korea dahil sa kanyang tema, “Migration” na tema mismo ng KPIFF 2019.
(Alden’s award affirms that Pinoy talents are world-class. His blockbuster hit film will surely hit home for the OFWs in Korea owing to its migration theme, which is the same theme of the KPIFF 2019.)
GNP: Which films are featured at the festival?
NA: The film “Ang Sikreto ng Piso” starring Ariel Rivera and Geli de Belen will open the KPIFF 2019.
“The Secret of Philippine Peso” is a family comedy about a father whose job is to collect one-peso coins, until he discovers something. It’s a film for families.
“You With Me” is a romantic comedy of a Pinoy Korean online friendship and follows their story as the girl who moves to Korea.
“Hello, Love, Goodbye” is a romantic drama about an OFW couple. Joy (Kathryn Bernardo) meets Ethan (Alden Richards) in Hong Kong before she has to leave for Canada for a better life. Will she move or stay in HK?
“The Bus” is the closing film. The documentary drama is about a Korean doctor diagnosed with cancer who goes to the Philippines to spend his last days there but ends up treating poor children in the countryside. Will his fate change?
The 3-day film festival will also feature short films.
The KPIFF 2019 screenings will be presented with discussions with the directors, actors, producers and professionals in the entertainment industry with the participation of the Philippine Embassy in Korea, Pinoy Iskolars sa Korea, Pinoy Artists in Korea, FilAm Creative based in Hollywood USA, Tanghalang Banyuhay, the Filipino community of South Korea and Koreans who have interest on Philippine arts and culture.
