Martha Stewart plants native rice in Sta. Rita, Pampanga

Martha Stewart spent her third day in the Philippines outside of Manila and experienced planting native rice in Pampanga.

The Homekeeping Queen was given the Kapampangan Culinary and Heritage Tour by Andy Alviz of Alviz Farm in Sta. Rita.

Stewart posted on social media some snapshots of her joining the rice planting which had the American style guru wade into the muddy rice paddy.

“Something I always wanted to do Plant rice! In Pampanga province in the countryside two hours by car from Manila we were hosted by Andy Alviz, farmer and philanthropist, the whole town turned out to extol the importance of native rice for the local population Thank you people of Pampanga!” wrote Martha Stewart on Instagram.

Alviz also posted snapshots of Martha Stewart’s tour at the provincial farm, showing her sampling a buffet of Kapampangan farm food and riding a kalesa coach.

In another Instagram post, Martha Stewart noted how the Philippines’ agriculture, shipping, tourism, real estate, technology are “all thriving endeavors in a growing economy.”

Martha Stewart arrived on August 19 for her first visit to the country and was given a tour of famous Manila landmarks by Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat and Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso.

Stewart also gave a talk at the ANC Leadership Forum where she praised the Philippines – its products, Filipino food, and the warm welcome given by her Filipino hosts.
