The Philippines won the 2019 “Living Skies Come Alive” international pyrotechnic battle held in Moosomin, Saskatchewan in Canada.
Platinum Fireworks Inc., the country’s representative in the annual competition, bested Team Canada in the annual fireworks tilt held on August 3 and 4.
The Platinum Fireworks team has been raising the Philippine colors in international pyrotechnic competitions such as in the Calgary fireworks festival where they swept all the awards in all three categories in 2015.
Another Filipino group, Dragon Fireworks, also impressed the Canadian audience with their Pinoy pyrotechnic prowess at the 2018 L’International des Feux Loto-Québec and bagged the Gold Jupiter and Best Soundtrack awards.
This year in Moosomin, the Philippines’ entry illuminated the night sky with its fireworks synchronized to Pinoy music – from Filipino world music of Pinikpikan to pop songs such as “Manila” of Hotdogs, “Kabataang Pinoy” of Itchywoms, “Noypi” of Bamboo, “Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas” of Angeline Quinto, and the “Anak” version of KZ Tandingan.
The face-off between the Philippines and Canada honored the Filipino culture being part of Moosomin community.
“Representing my country of adoption and the country of my daughter and the country of my wife, this is a very special show for me. We went all out to impress the crowd,” said Patrice Guy, Platinum Fireworks manager.
