Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) airport cleaner Sixto O. Brillante, Jr. exemplified the honesty of Filipino workers when he returned a passenger’s lost bag containing cash valued at PhP 430,000.
The Manila Allied Management Service Cooperative airport cleaner of NAIA, ranked in the Top 45 Best Airports for Business Traveler, was cleaning the male toilet on August 10 when another passenger noticed a black sling bag left unattended in the room.
Brillantes coordinated with his cleaning partner to locate the bag’s owner. They used the paging system and turned over the bag to the Lost and Found Section of the Intelligence and Investigation Division of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).
The MIAA reported an inventory of the found bag yielded cash worth EUR 7,300.00, a wallet, and an iPad.
A Turkish passenger was eventually identified as the owner of the bag and was able to claim it about an hour and a half later.
Praising the airport cleaner for his honesty, MIAA GM Ed Monreal said, “Mr. Brillante could have easily kept the bag and favorably benefitted from what’s inside it, but he chose to surrender it. I admire him for his integrity. Hearing stories like this makes us Filipinos proud,” said MIAA GM Ed Monreal.
The airport chief has regularly praised airport workers for practicing the virtue of honesty. “Doing good should never be an option. It must be a way of life for all of us,” GM Monreal said.
