The Philippines’ Dalareich tableya from Bohol and Auro cacao from Davao jointly won the Gold at the 2019 Academy of Chocolate Awards in London – marking the first time local chocolate producers were given the top prize at the international awards.
The prestigious Academy of Chocolate Awards gave the Dalareich 100% Pure Unsweetened Chocolate also known as “tableya” and the Auro 100% Cacao Unsweetened Chocolate the Gold prizes in the Drinking Chocolate, Plain for Milk-based category.
The Philippine chocolate producers’ big wins come during the most successful staging of the Academy of Chocolate Awards which evaluated 1,500 entries from chocolate producers in 46 nations. Results were announced on June 13.

The big wins are a first for the Philippines at the annual competition. Prior to Dalareich’s and Auro’s Gold wins, Philippine chocolates had received silver and bronze citations.
Auro also won 2 silvers and 7 bronze awards. Fellow Davao chocolate maker Malagos, and Theo and Philo also picked up silver and bronze awards in other categories at the 2019 edition of the Academy of Chocolate Awards.
