Meet cancer survivor Albien Emmanuel Gacias who is now a licensed physician. Gacias made the headlines when his 10-year challenge post of himself as a cancer patient and now a doctor went viral on the internet.
Gacias studied Medicine at the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Jonelta Foundation School of Medicine after earning a degree in BSN Nursing at University of Perpetual Help System DALTA. Gacias passed the Physician Licensure Examination in March 2019.
Gacias was diagnosed with a type of lung cancer when he was 19 years old in 2008. The then-nursing student thought of stopping his studies.
Gacias survived the fight against cancer with the support and love that he received from his family and friends. In his viral post on Facebook, Gacias wrote, “10 years ago ang pinagdadasal ko lang naman ay ang gumaling, wala akong idea na gagawin mo pala akong instrumento para ako naman ang makapagpagaling ng iba. Sobrang amazing mo Lord! Thank you! I am now licensed to heal. Para sa inyo to Mommy and honeyboy Al Jules Sean Gacias in heaven.”
At his oathtaking as a doctor on May 1, 2019, Gacias was honored by PRC Commisioner Yolanda David-Reyes with a Certificate of Recognition while his television news interview video was shown at the Philippine International Convention Center.
