Atom Araullo leads GMA Network medal haul at New York Festivals

Multi-awarded broadcast journalist Atom Araullo picked up a Silver Award at the New York Festivals, leading GMA Network’s world medals haul in the annual film and television event.

GMA Network, which won 8 world medals including Silver World Medal winner “Alaala” starring Alden Richards in the 2018 edition of the NY Fest, bagged a total of 4 medals and a finalist certificate in the 2019 edition of the event that also awarded ABS-CBN their two world medals.

GMA Network personalities received the awards for their news programs and documentaries in New York Fest’s “World’s Best TV and Films” held in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 9.

The following GMA Network shows were given medals:

1. “No Leftovers” episode of Atom Araullo Specials – the Kapuso Network’s monthly documentary program hosted by United Nations Refugee Agency Goodwill Ambassador and climate advocate Atom Araullo, won a Silver World Medal in the Social Issues category for the episode that looks into the concern of food wastage in the country.

2. Another Silver World Medal winner in New York Festival was GMA News TV’s Reel Time “Batang Maestro” episode for the Heroes category. The show featured the volunteer ‘little teachers’ of Sorsogon who cross Donsol river using a bamboo raft just to reach and teach children living in remote communities.

3. GMA Network’s multi-awarded news magazine program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho which earned for its host a New York Festival 2018 Bronze Medal for Best News Anchor, bagged this year’s Bronze World Medal in the Community Portraits category for featuring “Salay” – a rattan which students and teachers from Davao Oriental use to make an improvised cable car in order for them to cross the river to go to school or to buy their needs.

4. I-Witness, a multi-awarded documentary program, bagged its Bronze World Medal in the Health/Medical Information category for featuring the current state of mental health in the country through “Bilanggo ng Isipan” by Kara David.

In the Current Affairs category, I-Witness documentary “War Zone ER” by Sandra Aguinaldo received a Finalist Certificate.

Before he flew to the U.S. to receive his award, Atom Araullo went on radio with ALL KAPS Oh Well It’s Noel Ferrer on Radyo Katipunan to talk about his new YouTube-funded video series #StandForTruth and shared how he remains proud to be Filipino.
