The country’s first world class multi-gaming ESports Center (ESC) has opened at UP Town Center in Quezon City – in time for build up activities towards the official inclusion of ESports in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
The new haven for Filipino gamers was launched early March by Globe Telecom after the company and their partner Mineski introduced Team Liyab as their first ESports professional team which is preparing for the upcoming SEA Games slated to be held in the Philippines from November 30 to December 11, 2019.
Globe SVP and Head for Content Business Group Nikko Acosta revealed that the ESC is the first of its kind in the Philippines created to support various esports communities. “The ESC is an experience hub in which Filipino gamers and gaming enthusiasts can participate in the competition, creation of live streaming content, and interaction with other members of different esports communities.”
The ESC project aims to bring the local gaming community a world class gaming hub experience. Acosta adds, “We are positioning esports as a real sport, to make a gamer into a real athlete harnessing both physical and mental attributes by playing it right.”
Acosta added that one of the goals of Globe Games and Esports is to strengthen the grassroots level of esports in the country in cooperation with various fan communities. “We want to bring together different communities of popular games like Arena of Valor (AOV), Rules of Survival (ROS), League of Legends, and Tekken among others in one venue to upgrade their knowledge and gauge their skill levels with others through peer learning of new strategies and techniques.”
Globe also encourages gaming enthusiast and pro esport gamers to participate in competitive stage using ESC. Globe and its project also aims to strengthen and change the negative perspective of people about games in the local community.
