Thai League 1, Thailand’s premier professional football league and considered Southeast Asia’s top football league, will have a record number of Filipino footballers seeing action this season.
Thai League 1 increased their limits for Southeast Asian players from one to three per team, resulting in a total of nine Filipino players in the league scheduled to play in Thai teams on the third week of February.
Buriram United, the Thai league 1’s reigning champion has three Filipino players who were part of the Azkals that made a strong showing at its first finals appearance in last month’s AFC Asian Cup at United Arab Emirates: Luke Woodland, Javier Patiño, and defender Stephan Palla.
Goalkeeper Michael Falkesgaard, another Asian Cup veteran, will be on his second season with Bangkok United.
Ratchaburi Mitr Phol has Philippine Ceres-Negros Star Manny Ott and national team midfilder Amin Nazari who was part of Finnish Premier Division IFK Mariehamn.
Sukhothai FC signed Iain Ramsay, Australian born player from Philippine Ceres-Negros FC and who played for Malaysian FeldaUnited FC.
Chainat Hornbill has former UP Mens Football defender Marco Casambre, while Mark Hartmann, former Ratchaburi Mitr Phol and Azkal, joined Suphanburi FC this Thai League 2019 season.
