Anilao youth assume bigger, more active role in developing their communities

Fifty young leaders from the rural barangays and indigenous groups from Anilao, Iloilo province join their barangay officials in advancing transformation through Leadership Communities (LeadCom), a community-based training and empowerment program that helps youth organizations in designing and implementing projects that address their communities’ most pressing needs.

“I know that LeadCom will harness the youth’s potential and open so many opportunities for them,” Anilao Mayor Lee Ann Debuque said.

The Municipality of Anilao kicks off its partnership with Ayala Foundation together with the Ayala Business Club–Iloilo Chapter for the implementation of the LeadCom program on July 30, 2018. LeadCom is a venue for youth development, fostering the active participation of the young in community development, contributing specifically to their Barangay Development Agenda.

Comprising 10 teams with five members each, the young leaders committed to meaningfully contribute to the development of their communities.

These youth groups will undergo the ideation and project management phase with workshops and capability sessions to effectively implement their proposed project. LeadCom will strengthen the youth’s desire of being active citizens and enable them to help transform more lives to be the difference our society needs.

“LeadCom has since trained 1,268 youth leaders who have implemented 149 community projects. It has reached at least 7,000 direct beneficiaries and mobilized more than 900 volunteers from local stakeholders. And we are happy to be partners with the dynamic leaders of Anilao for LeadCom,” said Ayala Foundation President Ruel Maranan.

LeadCom trains and empowers community-based youth organizations by helping them design and implement projects that address their communities’ most pressing needs. It enables young leaders to meaningfully contribute to the development of their communities.
