Three Filipino designers are among the winners in this year’s UT Grand Prix (UTGP), the global t-shirt design competition of Japan’s Uniqlo global brand.
Twenty-two winning designs were selected from among 18,000 entries – a UTGP record – from over 40 countries.
The theme of the 2019 design competition was “Pokémon”, a global anime series loved by people throughout the world and stars the endearing yellow “Pikachu” character.
“I was inspired by the idea of origami and Pokémon. When you check my design, it’s actually a step-by-step process on how you can come up with a Pikachu origami,” Philippine winner Dana explained about her design.
Another winner from the Phillippines, CTRLD, explored a different character from the series.
“My design is centered on Jigglypuff based on the anime series. Jigglypuff sings and whoever hears it falls asleep so Jigglypuff gets angry and scribbles or doodles on their faces,” CTRLD shared.
The third winning design from the Philippines was created by HVNN.
The three designs from the Philippines and other winning t-shirt designs from all over the world are available in Uniqlo stores worldwide.
Since 2005, Uniqlo has been conducting the UT Grand Prix design competition with various themes which include Star Wars, Pixar, Marvel, among others. The contest is open to anyone regardless of age, gender, or nationality.
