Three Filipina volunteers in the Netherlands were honored with the Koninklijke onderscheidingen or Dutch Royal Honors, a yearly tradition awarded by the monarch to deserving Dutch citizens and foreign nationals for their significant contributions to society.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced said last May 3, 2020, the honor received by the three Filipina residents in the Netherlands.
Cecilia “Ching” Francisco-Lansang of Utrecht received the Ridder van Oranje Nassau (Knight of the Order of the House of Orange) for her work with church groups and their feeding and education program ministering to the needs of poor children and their families in various areas in the Philippines.
Corazon van Campenhout-Alarcon of Schiedam received the Lid van Orange Nassau (Member of the Order of the House of Orange) for her work as a volunteer organizer in various organizations as well as for the home care of the elderly in Rotterdam until her retirement in 2005.
Avelina “Ave” Rodriguez-Baxa also received the Lid van Orange Nassau (Member of the Order of the House of Orange) as a volunteer of various organizations including the University of the Philippines Alumni Association the Netherlands (UPAA-NL) and the JILCW–Rotterdam, Netherlands, and providing counseling to Filipino migrant workers in the Netherlands while supporting 50 indigent children from a depressed barangay of Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, as well as small livelihood projects of their families.
In 2019, Filipino filmmaker Kidlat Tahimik a.ka. Eric de Guia was awarded as Prince Claus Laureate by the Royal Palace in Amsterdam in the Netherlands for his achievements in filmmaking.
Three Filipino women scientists were also honored in the Philippines in celebration of International Women’s Month last March.
Filipina filmmaker Alyx Arumpac bagged the International Critic’s Prize (Fipresci) at the 2019 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam.
