Did you know that the Irish and the Filipino have a lot in common?
As an Irishman living here in the Philippines for the last 3 years, I have noticed some major similarities between my Irish culture and the Filipino culture.
And it’s quite surprising when I share with Filipinos that I believe the Filipinos are the Irish of Asia and vice versa.
We Irish are the Filipinos of Europe.
So I want to give some examples of why I believe that, because people feel that because the islands are 7,000 miles apart, they think we have nothing in common.
But there’s three things that come to mind.
#1: Both of us were colonized.
Philippines was colonized. Ireland was colonized.
#2: Both of us have a history of mass emigration.
So Irish people have spread across the world. And Filipinos spread across the world.
#3: Both of us are strongly influenced by the Roman Catholic Church.
Of interest, an extra bonus: Over a hundred years ago, a very famous Filipino fell in love with an Irish woman. Josephine Bracken was her name and her husband was Jose Rizal who is the national hero of the Philippines.
So it’s quite inspiring for me as in Irish guy living in the Philippines, who have made my home here in the Philippines, who see my future here in the Philippines!
To see that there’s so much connection between my country Ireland and the Philippines.
So I wanted to share that with you guys!
That Filipinos and Irish people are very much alike!
And the greatest days lie ahead for both of us.
Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Mabuhay ang Ireland!
Take care guys.
