The work-from-home (WFH) arrangement, widely adopted during the pandemic, continues to prove successful for many companies. According to JobStreet by SEEK, a leading online job portal, over a thousand job ads for remote or hybrid work were posted in the last three months alone.
While some companies express concerns about potential issues like isolation and decreased productivity, JobStreet by SEEK advocates that WFH and hybrid models can actually enhance productivity.
Flexible Schedules Lead to Happier, More Productive Employees
WFH and hybrid setups allow for flexible work schedules, with employees having the freedom to choose when to work remotely and when to report on-site. This balance between social interaction at the office and comfort at home contributes to a healthier work-life balance, leading to happier employees who are more productive.
JobStreet by SEEK’s Future of Recruitment report highlights that work-life balance is a key factor for employees when accepting job offers. Their Job Happiness Survey 2024 also found that employees in remote or hybrid setups report better work-life balance compared to those working fully on-site.
“Offering WFH or hybrid work setups gives employees free rein in balancing their work and lifestyle. When employees are less stressed, they can focus more on completing their tasks at work. This also leads to a lower turnover rate for companies, as happier employees may be more satisfied to stay in their jobs. Hence, we recommend companies utilize flexibility for employees to their advantage,” said Dannah Majarocon, Managing Director, Philippines, JobStreet by SEEK.

Expanding the Talent Pool with WFH
Adopting WFH or hybrid models can also expand a company’s talent pool, enabling it to reach beyond major office locations and attract a more diverse workforce from across the country. This approach not only enhances the company’s reach but also boosts overall productivity.
“Many companies have offices in major cities such as Manila, Cebu, or Davao, which limits opportunities for talent coming from more rural parts of the country. This is where the WFH arrangement can actually provide a solution,” Majarocon explained. “By having a remote work arrangement, the company can expand its talent to people who would not have the opportunity to live and work near an office site. This grows a company’s talent pool, which leads to increased workplace productivity.”

Empowering and Diversifying the Workforce
WFH arrangements also empower people who may find it challenging to work in traditional office settings, such as persons with disabilities or single mothers. JobStreet by SEEK emphasizes that flexible work models help diversify the workforce, creating a more inclusive and supportive environment.
“In conclusion, a WFH arrangement, whether full-time or hybrid, can help a company’s productivity level by increasing the happiness index of its employees while also increasing the number of talent that on-site arrangements may not be able to provide. JobStreet by SEEK continues to uphold its support for the WFH system as it opens many opportunities for all types of job seekers, which benefits both companies and individual livelihoods,” Majarocon concluded.
