UP professor appointed American Optical Society editor

University of the Philippines professor Dr. Percival F. Almoro of the National Institute of Physics (NIP) was appointed to the Optical Society of America (OSA) as Topical Editor for its Applied Optics Journal for 2016-2018.

Almoro’s appointment gives UP Diliman the distinction of being the only Philippine university in the scholarly journal’s board of editors. Applied Optics is an ISI SCI-indexed journal which publishes in-depth peer-reviewed content about applications-centered research in optics, the scientific study of light, and covers optical technology, photonics, lasers, information processing, sensing and environmental optics.

As OSA topical editor, Almoro will making decisions on reviewed manuscripts, assigning reviewers of submitted manuscripts, and evaluating submitted research in specialized optics research areas such as Holography, Speckle, Interferometry, Nondestructive testing and Statistical Fringe Processing.

The Physics professor is a member of the NIP Photonics Group, the Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas, and the National Research Council of the Philippines.
