University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman climbed up 28 spots to reach the top 33 percent in the 2020 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (WUR). This is the highest ranking of UP since it debuted in the rankings in 2014.
The flagship campus of the country’s premier state university placed 356th in the latest edition of the QS WUR. The current ranking brings UP 28 notches higher than last year’s 384th spot in the world’s top 1,000 educational institutions. This is UP’s fourth climb in the QS world rankings.
UP is the only Philippine university among the 16 Southeast Asian institutions in the upper half of the list.

The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs reported
that UP ranked high in the QS WUR according to three indicators:
- rose 18 places to reach 242nd in academic reputation (40 percent)
- ranked 240th in employer reputation (10 percent)
- ascended 52 spots to 234th in the faculty-student ratio (20 percent)
The other QS WUR indicators are:
- citations per faculty (20 percent)
- international faculty ratio (5 percent)
- international student ratio (5 percent)

The QS WUR rankings are based on annual worldwide surveys. In the 2020 edition, more than 94,000 responses from academics and around 45,000 responses from employers worldwide were collected and analyzed by QS.
