The University of Santo Tomas (UST) is offering its Freshmen a virtual tour of its Manila campus via Minecraft as part of its opening of the new school year.
The oldest active university in Asia and the Philippines is offering the online service as it welcomes the new college students who are facing new modes of learning amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Philippines has adopted a distance learning approach to eliminate the need for face-to-face classes amid health safety concerns. It relies on online broadcasts and media to augment students’ e-learning experience.
Eighty dedicated Thomasian creatives brought to life the UST’s 21.5-hectare Manila campus on the sandbox video game Minecraft, digitizing its iconic structures and familiar grounds.
The Thomasian students behind the project also added immersive features such as IDs and uniform skins to add to the experience.
The student volunteers meticulously recreated UST Manila on the platform to give incoming freshies a glimpse into campus life while the pandemic’s restrictions keep everyone home.
The Minecraft server also gives Thomasian students a familiar place to bond while under new normal schooling.
Freshies can join the official campus tour by filling out an application form posted on the UST Minecraft’s page in this link.
Incoming UST freshmen can take part in the school’s annual Thomasian Welcome Walk through the official virtual campus tour happening on August 28, 2020.

The University of Santo Tomas designed a robot engineered to lessen contact risk for medical frontliners as they fight against the COVID-19 virus while the UST TeleTigers Esports Club boosted the school’s pride after its undefeated run to the finals and championship win at the AcadArena Esports Championships.
The University of the Philippines has been on Minecraft via the works of the state university students. JB Cunanan built UP Diliman on Minecraft in 2018 while Fred Tacla recreated UP Los Banos on Minecraft in 2019.
