Many of us are dreaming of becoming financially free. Free from debt, free from financial worry and stress and free from lack. We desire to come to a point in our lives where we never have to think about where our next meal will be coming from.
But why is that this freedom is so hard to achieve? Maybe some of us think that financial freedom is only for the rich. Truthfully speaking, financial freedom is for everyone. Achieving financial freedom does not happen by luck but is a choice. You can choose to be free from debt or choose to live in debt.
Allow me share with you the top three reasons that hinder people from having financial freedom:
LACK OF KNOWLEDGE
Financial illiteracy is one of the main reasons why some people suffer from financial crisis. All of us desire to have financial freedom and security but none of us were taught how to get there.
Our educational system taught us how to create it but never taught us how to manage it and make it grow. If we will increase our knowledge on handling, managing and valuing our money, we are setting up ourselves for a stress-free life and a brighter future.
LACK OF DISCIPLINE
No matter how our parents or leaders impose discipline on us, when it comes to handling our finances, at the end of the day, we are still the ones who will decide. We should train and discipline ourselves in spending our resources knowing that it will affect our lives (relationships, future, priorities, etc). If we have internal discipline then external discipline will follow. If we lack discipline in handling our finances, we are setting ourselves up for a life of debt. We will surely sow what we reap. Lack of discipline will have its consequences in our lives and even on the people whom we love.
So may I suggest for control of your emotions when making financial choices. Three simple things you can do: Buy what you can only afford; live below your means; never buy anything in debt.
LACK OF ACTION
Every discovery, realization and learning is useless if we don’t act upon it. It’s like buying an expensive whitening cream without even applying it then expecting to become fairer in two weeks. You need to use it by opening the cap and applying it to your face.
It doesn’t need to be a big step. Just a simple step of resolving not to use your credit card on unnecessary things is a good sign already. Identify the things or factors that hinder you from achieving your goal (financial freedom) then think of a solution. Though we differ from each other’s financial situation, all of us can have a life of freedom. It doesn’t matter if you’re rich or not, an employer or an employee, a student or a professional, a housewife or a nurse – as long as you have the boldness, conviction and commitment to attain financial freedom, then financial freedom is within your reach.
