Tagaytay City has been praised for being a good model of tourism reopening amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tagaytay City announced its reopening this September to visitors without travel passes from areas under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) or no quarantine status.
In its tourism video posted on social media on September 3, Tagaytay City presented its new hospitality model that follows health safety protocols such as the wearing of face mask and the practice of physical distancing.
Among the travel spots that welcome tourists include the Sky Ranch, Picnic Grove, churches, markets, and hotels with the famous Taal Volcano view.
The tourist destination in Cavite province, south of Manila, was referred to by JTF Covid Shield commander Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar as a pilot or model area for all local government units that are planning to open their borders to tourism during his visit on September 19.
Tagaytay City Mayor Agnes Tolentino said in response, “We assure the national government through the NTF on Covid-19 that we will be in constant coordination with the JTF Covid Shield to make sure that everything will always be in place in ensuring the proper balance between the need to revive our economy and the health safety of both our visitors and the people of Tagaytay City”.
Tagaytay City previously closed down to tourism after the Taal Volcano erupted in January and spewed ashes across the city. It had barely recovered when the coronavirus disease struck and placed the Philippines under various levels of community quarantine.
The Philippines obtained the ‘Safe Travels’ stamp from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), granting approval of the country as a trusted global destination that follows strict health and hygiene protocols amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among the famous tourist spots that are reopening to travelers, Baguio City, the country’s summer capital that earlier reopened Camp John Hay to local residents.
World-famous Boracay beach also earlier reopened to tourists with health safety protocols in place.
