Volunteer group #SilentHeroesPH has been quietly passing out Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), supplies, and vitamins to help stop infections among frontliners in the fight against COVID 19.
The volunteer group which prefers to remain anonymous has managed to produce the supplies through donations. They have been distributing the PPEs and vitamins to medical and other essential workers since March 26, 2020.
Good News Pilipinas reached out to the #SilentHeroesPH group and was accommodated with an interview.
The group says they realize that the country needs more support than what the government can provide given the unexpected public health crisis.
“Knowing that our Frontliners fight this battle wearing Garbage Bags, Cling Wraps, and Raincoats just literally break our hearts. As Filipinos, we just want to be proactive and share whatever we can to help and save the people who saves us,” shared the volunteer team.
The group of financial advisors started posting on their own social media to ask for help in cash or in-kind to support health workers in 20 hospitals.
The funds started coming in and they were able to exceed their target and have provided for 101 beneficiaries as of this writing. With over one million pesos funds raised, they are now aiming to help 138 Beneficiary Frontliner Hubs such as hospitals, clinics, barangays, police, security guards, toll gate attendants, fast food crew, Grab/ Lalamove drivers.
The funds are used to purchase raw materials for PPEs, and volunteer drivers deliver them to volunteer sewers. Donors also donate raw materials for production, as well as supplies like vitamins, face masks, and surgical gloves.
“Our goal is to give our Beneficiaries not just the Protective Bunny Suits, but also to give them other protections like Alcohol, Surgical Masks, Surgical Gloves, Face Shield, and also Vitamins to boost their Immune System. We believe by providing them these weapons can somehow help them win this tough battle,” shared the #SilentHeroesPH volunteers.
The team adds, “One hundred percent of our manpower right now are volunteers. SilentHeroesPH are thankful for the generosity and commitment of our Logistics and Sewing Team. They are not asking for anything in return. I’m sure God will bless them a thousandfold in return for their good deeds. We will be forever grateful for all the people who’ve been helping us in this project. From our Donors to Drivers to Designers and Sewers. Without them, this project will not be possible.”
More initiatives have been set up by citizen groups to help protect the country’s medical and essential services frontliners.
The University of the Philippines alumni in Hong Kong donated cash to help medical workers at the Philippine General Hospital, a COVID-19 center.
A group of stranded UP Visayas students created makeshift face shields for frontliners while a pair of UP Diliman students created the Lukal health drink and donated them to hospital workers.
DOST-SEI scholars across the country also volunteered to distribute supplies for frontliners.
