The International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Switzerland has honored Filipina fencing champion Maria Leonor Estampador with the Continental Award for Asia.
The IOC Women and Sports Awards recognized Estampador for her works in broadening opportunities for women in both administrative and technical responsibilities within sports.
Estampador, the country’s first female fencing coach, is a gold medalist for the Philippines in 1993 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore.
She is the current administrative manager and assistant secretary of the Fencing Confederation of Asia.
The International Olympic Committee, the organization which gave the award, is a nonprofit organization composed of volunteers committed in building a better world through sport.
