OPM singer Maki has achieved new milestones with his latest hit single “Dilaw (Yellow)” debuting on Spotify’s Top Songs Global chart.
“Dilaw” debuted at #200 on June 9, 2024, and is currently at #142 with 1.406 million streams as of this writing.
“Dilaw” is the third Filipino song in history to enter the global Spotify chart, following Juan Karlos’ “Ere” and “Babaero” by gins&melodies ft. Hev Abi.
Since its release on May 24, “Dilaw” has already garnered over 27 million streams on Spotify.
The song is currently No. 1 on Spotify Philippines Top 50 Songs chart with over 1 million streams, maintaining its rank since June 6, followed by OPM girl group BINI’s “Salamin, Salamin” and Pantropiko.”
It also debuted at No. 4 on Billboard Philippines’ Songs chart and featured on Tatak Pinoy, Hot Hits Philippines, and RADAR Philippines playlists.
The music video for “Dilaw,” featuring Maki and BINI member Maloi as the lead stars, has over 5.6 million views on YouTube.
Maki compared the song to the joy and hope the color “yellow” brings and how it gave light to learn to love again.
“I actually wrote this song for myself, para sa batang ako na laging naghahanap ng love sa ibang tao. ‘Yung sobrang bigay siya nang bigay ng pagmamahal tapos hindi niya nakukuha pabalik,” said Maki in a news release of ABS-CBN PR. “Now, I realize na after so many heartbroken moments in my life, ‘di ko na mahal ‘yung sarili ko. Dapat ‘yung dilaw natin unang-una sa lahat ay yung sarili natin.”
(“I wrote this song for myself, for my younger self who was always looking for love from others. The one who gave so much love but didn’t receive it in return. Now, I realize that after so many heartbreaking moments, I no longer loved myself. Our ‘Dilaw’ should first and foremost be ourselves.”)
The song was co-written with Nameless Kids’ vocalist Nhiko Sabiniano, also its producer, and released under Tarsier Records, a label under ABS-CBN.
Maki, also known for his hit single “Saan?” which expresses longing for a lost love, has 5.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
