The national costume of reigning Miss Universe Catriona Gray is set to be displayed in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu at the center of the Philippine archipelago.
It can be recalled that after the Miss Universe 2018 national costume competition in Thailand in December, the National Quincentennial Committee asked permission from Catriona Gray to display the costume at the lobby of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines Building in Manila.
The government agency also planned to have a national costume tour in some of the museums in Luzon.
This time, Gray’s costume ensemble will be displayed on September 13 at the Bellavista Hotel as part of the countdown of 500 days to the 500th year anniversary of Filipino valor and victory in 2021, and the World of Lapu-Lapu Lecture series.
The National Quincentennial Committee, the team who handles the preparation of the 500th year anniversary for the Philippines as part the first circumnavigation of the world and the victory of our ancestors led by Lapu-Lapu in the Battle of Mactan, confirmed in their social media about the schedule of Gray’s national costume exhibit.
Catriona and her designer Jearson Demavivas took the 16th-century tattooed warriors of Visayas as one of the national costume’s inspirations, aside from the giant lantern of Luzon and various native textile and accessories of Mindanao.
The Luzviminda national costume is a product of collaboration between Catriona Gray herself, her team, designers, and artists from different parts of the country.
It also represented the country’s three major groups of islands of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, and showcased the arts, heritage, the challenges, and triumphs of Filipino nation.
Catriona Gray’s national costume exhibit in Lapu-Lapu City is open to the public.
SEND cheers to Catriona Gray and her team for showcasing Filipino culture!
