Travelers to Lobo town in Batangas province going to Malabrigo Beach and Lighthouse can now enjoy faster and more convenient travel with the newly completed road widening.
Malabrigo Beach boasts of crystal clear waters on a stretch of beach that is uniquely pebbled – instead of sandy.
Faro de Punta Malabrigo, also known as the Malabrigo Lighthouse, is one of the first 24 lighthouses constructed during the Spanish colonial era in the Philippines. It is one of the oldest working lighthouses which guides ships going to Batangas Bay or Sibuyan Sea through the Verde Island Passage.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on February 27, 2020, the completion of two (2) road widening projects along Batangas-Lobo Road and Lobo-Malabrigo Road to increase road capacity. DPWH also says the road project can attract more tourists to the town of Lobo.
The 933-meter section of Batangas-Lobo Road from Barangay Tulo to Barangay Paharang which cost Php 70.97 Million and the 1,017-meter Lobo-Malabrigo Road from Barangay Mabilog na Bundok to Barangay Olo-olo costing Php 53.72 Million were widened from two (2) lanes to four (4) lanes.
Originally targeted to be completed by February 2020, the road projects were actually completed in December 2019,” said DPWH Batangas 2nd District Engineer Sonia D. Paglicauan.
“With these projects, gridlock will be prevented in areas that were previously considered as choke points going to Lobo’s tourist destinations. These roads also have drainage provision to prevent flooding in the area,” added District Engineer Paglicauan.
More road projects that lead to more convenient travel to tourism destinations include a new paved road to Davao Oriental’s hidden gem Lake Carolina, another 2-lane road in Camarines Norte that provides travelers a scenic view on their way to “Mahabang Buhangin”, the Boracay-like beach on Calaguas Island, the Daang Kalikasan road that quickly became a local tourist hot spot in Northern Luzon, and Samar’s Basey Bypass road leading to Sohoton National Park and Balantak Falls.
SEND CHEERS in the comments below to the people of Lobo, Batangas and visitors to Malabrigo Beach and Lighthouse for the newly widened roads that make travel to the tourist destinations safer and faster!
