Adidas is releasing Manila-inspired shirts designed by Quiccs Maiquez, an acclaimed toy designer and Adidas’ first Filipino creator who is representing the Philippines once again through his latest collaboration with the famous sportswear brand.
Quiccs, known for his award-winning vinyl figures and fusing robot anime shows, posted a teaser of his new collection with Adidas on October 16, 2020, with the hashtags #MadeInMNL #MadeForTheWorld #QuiccsManilaTees.
The Filipino artist has since then revealed more designs of his Manila-themed shirts to social media. According to Quiccs, the new drops feature one of the murals he painted in Hawaii a couple of years ago, called “B-boy TEQ63″.
B-boy TEQ63 is seen in various shirts, rocking Adidas Superstars while playing Basketball and sporting true Philippine colors. Quiccs says he was also inspired by the iconic Adidas Superstar, a sneaker that was originally designed as a basketball shoe back in 1969.
“In representing the Adidas Badge of Sport through the sport we, the Filipinos, love the most in Basketball, I wanted to pay homage to this icon by creating this first of our three Quiccs Manila Tees: the SCARLET Edition,” the artist explained.
“The spotlight on TEQ63 is a design homage to our nation’s sun and three stars, with every sunray having three stripes inside…TEQ63 is going for the SLAM DUNK for that Filipino Pride!” Quiccs continued in another post.
The illustrations of Quiccs and his team are also displayed on the walls of the new Adidas Neighborhood store, which recently opened in Greenbelt 5 in Makati, Manila. To decorate the new store, he and his team created characters wearing streetwear pieces with Filipino indigenous patterns, backpacks with rattan textures, and the three stars and a sun as homage to the Philippine flag.
According to Quiccs, the historic collaboration with Adidas drops on October 23, 2020, in select stores. A pre-launch is also happening on Adidas Philippines’ website.
The Bulletpunk Universe brand creator’s first collaboration with Adidas was a limited release sneaker featuring NanoTEQ inspired by OG colorways of the iconic Adidas Superstar.
Quiccs has also been featured in ToyCon PH.
