From Broadway to Hollywood, two of the most awarded Filipino-American producers—Jhett Tolentino and Marc Anthony Nicolas—joined BlogTalk with MJ Racadio to share their inspiring journeys in entertainment, celebrating Filipino excellence during the show’s 11th anniversary in partnership with GoodNewsPilipinas.com.
Jhett Tolentino, a three-time Tony and Grammy Award-winning Broadway producer, discussed the national release of his film Asian Persuasion, which will stream beginning May 27. The movie showcases diversity with 21 Asian countries represented in its cast and crew.
“It’s a long time coming, but we’re so glad that the universe, the stars aligned, and we’re finally here,” said Tolentino. “Asian Persuasion is about women empowerment… We’re showcasing that women have their own agency. Ten of the department heads are all female.”
Tolentino revealed his next project, a collaboration with actress Rosario Dawson, is in development for filming in Guam, a location with untapped potential. “We’re fighting for it because we need authenticity in our storytelling.”
When asked about future plans, Tolentino declared a shift in creative direction: “I’m done with theater. Just films. Just films, yes… and music, of course.”
He also celebrated the success of Nurse Unseen, an Oscar contender. “We support each other’s work and whatever we can do to shed light on all our stories,” he said.
Joining the conversation was Marc Anthony Nicolas, a two-time Emmy Award-winning producer of The Talk. Nicolas reflected on his passion for mentorship and drive to live life with gratitude.
“I book the mentees, which is the young adults and also the teenagers and 20-year-olds. I love the excitement. I love the thrill,” Nicolas shared. “Every time I wake up, I’m always like, ‘Oh my God,’ I’m just so grateful for this bed. I’m grateful for this roof. I live life to the fullest. That’s what life’s all about. And if you live life only once, once is enough.”
With their trailblazing work, both Tolentino and Nicolas continue to amplify Asian American voices in mainstream media, inspiring the next generation of storytellers.
