Wonder what the interior of a newer, safer jeepney would be? Well, the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) has unveiled the interior of a newer, more environment-friendly electric jeep.
The jeep is made by Star8, and according to the company’s official website, their jeeps are capable of seating 20 adults and come in aircon and non-airconditioned variants. The jeep is powered by solar energy and can run off of its batteries if need be, which has a range of 100 kilometers on a single charge.
The jeep features air-conditioning, and also has its own electric fan for non-airconditioned models. It will be able to use cashless payments through providers like PayMaya, GCash or other payment gateways mandated by the government.
The jeep itself is primarily made out of fiberglass for reduced weight and better mileage, with high-stregnth pipe welding and structuration-rust paint process used in its chassis. It has a maximum speed of 45 km/h which is perfect for city driving.
The government has earlier started enforcing its PUV modernization program, phasing out old jeepneys that are older than 15 years from the street. Operators and drivers are now looking to replace their old fleet with Euro-4 compliant vehicles, though electric jeeps such as Star8 is offering could be a worthy replacement.
