Team Philippines proudly raised the national flag several times in Australia as Filipino dancers captured 4 international championship titles and 7 runner-up finishes at the 2019 World Supremacy Battlegrounds (WSB) dance contest held in Sydney from October 4-6.
Here are the 4 champions from the Philippines, along with the Top 2 and Top 3 finishers.
1. Team Philippines ruled the WSB Open Division with all three medals going to Filipino dancers, besting 13 other title contenders. San Jose del Monte, Bulacan’s pride KENYO STREET FAM led by Jemuel Gojo Cruz emerged with the championship title, while REINVENT picked up the Silver, and ACADEMY OF GOD got the Bronze.

2. Kidapawan City’s pride, OFFLIMITZ, ruled the WSB Varsity Division, besting 17 other competitors including fellow Filipinos, BOCBOC NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL DANCE TROUPE which emerged in 2nd place.
This is the first international prize for OFFLIMITZ. Team captain Dave Cazenas shared to Good News Pilipinas this message to Filipino dancers who are dreaming for similar recognition: “You have to dream big and set your goal because a dream without a goal is merely just a dream. And especially ask for guidance from the man above for he will not let you and your crew down, keep training, keep working hard and always be improving because bigger doors are waiting ahead.”

- BOCBOC NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL DANCE TROUPE (PHI) 90.00

3. The Metro Manila-Luzon-based group of dancers named the ELECTRO GROOVERS JUNIOR won gold in the WSB Junior Division, besting 11 other contenders for the title, including another Philippine group, DANSSA JR.
Peter Lee Collado, who led the winning group as its founder and head coach, shared with Good News Pilipinas his appreciation of the competition, saying, “This dancing competition does not only signify talents and skills but emphasizes more on strong camaraderie and brotherhood among nations in the world. It strengthens the relationships of the different countries regardless of social standing in our present existing society. It clearly manifests that we are all equal before the eyes of the ALMIGHTY GOD, without prejudice and discrimination aiming for the same direction towards PEACE, UNITY, and HOPE.”
“Dancing makes us happy and prevents our youth from doing bad,” adds Collado who has led the various groups under Electro Groovers to winning various dance competitions including the 2018 edition of the WSB.

4. Taytay’s pride, dancer-choreographer KIM SANCHEZ, emerged champion in the WSB Solo Adult individual division, besting 7 other competitors. Sanchez went on social media to thank his dance groups and supporters, and dedicated the gold win to the Philippines, writing, “Motherland this is for you!”

In addition to the Open, Varsity, and Junior double medals for Filipinos, Team Philippines also performed strongly in the Kids Division with ELECTRO GROOVERS KIDS bagging the Silver, ELECTRO GROOVERS YG winning Silver in the Young Guns Division, and COUNTS winning Bronze in the Monster Division.
The 2019 WSB was judged by an international panel of dance experts from the USA, Canada, the Philippines, Japan, China, and Australia.
Filipino contemporary dance crews have steadily gained international acclaim, among them, World Hip-hop Dance champions UPeepz, World of Dance champions VPeepz, and Got Talent finalist Junior Dance System
