GoodNewsPilipinas.com-Lutong Pinoy claimed its first-ever basketball title after edging past the Titans 80-79 in a winner-take-all game to seize the 2019 Grandeur Basketball Championship Season 3 Crown at the Stamford International School Jefferson Gymnasium in Singapore.
Top scoring for the GoodNewsPilipinas.com-Lutong Pinoy team was tournament MVP Terence Tumalip with 22 points. Ronald Calma chipped in 19 markers, Edi Lozano 17 and Phey Manasan added 10 points.
The Season 3 title made GoodNewsPilipinas.com-Lutong Pinoy the first Filipino team to win the Singapore international tournament made up of around 12 clubs from various countries based in the city-state.
The All-Filipino squad is made of Filipino professionals working in Singapore in various industries from information technology, shipping, banking, and sports professionals.
On the way to winning the championship, GoodNewsPilipinas.com-Lutong Pinoy beat TP Twins in the quarterfinals 67-59 and the final four the Invaders 48-43.
Led by Coach Gerard Francisco, a former PBA player, and team captains Timothy Alcos and Walken Li, other key players of the team are Mark Lansang, Marvin Magpantay, Vincent Gonzales, Gergel Lujero, Jose Gabriel, Richard Castillo, Angelo Ganiron, Erick Lopez, George Dela Cruz, Rolando Prado, Russ Sarip, and Migo Hizon.
The team was organised to support the theme of the news platform to promote the good in every Filipino, the beauty of the Philippines, and make Filipinos proud of their culture and heritage.
Pinoy ball clubs from the Philippines have recently picked up medals in various tourneys overseas including the UP Fighting Maroons title in Taiwan and the Team Pilipinas Boys and Girls teams who won back-to-back titles at the ASEAN School Games in Indonesia.
