A student film thesis titled “Gamu-Gamo (Embers)” directed by Will Sim Garcia, won a Golden Palm Award at the Mexico International Film Festival 2015.
Garcia, a Digital Filmmaking alumna of De La Salle- College of Saint Benilde, also wrote the screenplay of the film.
Gamu-gamo is about the views of two young girls who mistake a pornographic film for a horror film.
“My co-writer MK Jannin Ventura and I wanted to highlight the importance of responsible parenting and to depict the effects of pornography on children. We did extensive research and studied interviews of young women who experienced the same curiosity towards sex,” Garcia told media.
Before being recognized internationally at the Mexico Film Fest “Gamu-Gamo” had already received consecutive awards in the Philippines wherein it won Best Storyline at UP Cebu’s UPelikula 2015, and Best Cinematography at CineSB 5inco Independent Film Festival.
