FIDE International Master Daniel Quizon led the Philippine chess team’s winning streak at the Blitz games of the 4th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship in Thailand.
The strong Philippine team showing follows the recent medal wins by Filipinos at the 20th ASEAN Age Group Chess Championships held in Myanmar.
The Filipino chess sensation dominated in his category in the tournament’s Blitz games held on August 3. Quizon and 4 other members of the Philippine team won in 5 separate divisions to give the country an overall lead in the rankings.
The Philippine team won the following Blitz games divisions:
- Daniel Quizon, Under 16 division
- Ruelle Canino, Under 12 division
- Allaney Doroy, Combined under 16 and 18
- Mark Jay Bacojo, Under 14
- Franiel Angela Magpily, Under 10
An August 5 update by Ignacio Dee on the National Chess Federation of the Philippines social media group indicated Daniel Quizon ( U-16), Ruelle Canino (U-12), Angele Tenshi Biete ( U-14), and Franiel Angela Magpily ( U-10) remained on top their age groups at the ongoing Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship.
In second place or tied for second in their divisions were Al-basher Buto ( U-10), Michael Concio ( U-16), Gladimir Chester Romero (U-12). In third or tied for third were Eric Labog Jr and Stephen Rome Pangilinan (U-18).
The Philippine chess team is competing in the Thailand tournament until August 10.
