Filipino-Australian Melanie Perkins has been named the youngest among the 117 billionaires in Australia and the third richest woman in the country.
The 32-year old technology sensation was listed among Australia’s wealthiest who averaged 65 years old. She is also the 3rd richest among the 29 women on The Australian’s ranking.
Melanie Perkins, whose mother is Filipina, co-founded the widely used digital graphic business Canva that earned her a place on The List of Australia’s Richest 250 released by The Australian Business Review and Equity Trustees.
Perkins debuted on The List with a wealth of $1.32 billion, placing her at the 82nd spot after final wealth figures were calculated in late February 2020.
Canva shared in a press statement that their value has added another $US60 million this year which rocketed to a whopping $US6 billion ($A8.77 billion) amid the pandemic when many professionals use their platform at home.
The widely known digital graphic business was founded by Melanie and her fiance Cliff Obrecht and colleague Cameron Adams back in 2014.
With Canva’s user-friendly features, no wonder it is used by over 30 million people a month covering 190 countries for designing, marketing materials, social media content, videos, and more.
A total of over 3 billion designs were created since launch with 80 designs per second.
Melanie told The Australian earlier this year that they have a simple two-step plan.
“One, to build one of the world’s most valuable companies and, two, to do the best we can.”
This is not the first time Filipinos have reached milestones and were recognized around the globe.
Pampanga’s Melanie Martins became the first Filipina to be given the United States Submarine Warfare Specialist honors.
Christine Amour-Levar, the HER Planet Earth Founder and CEO, crossed Greenland’s Arctic Circle Trail using fatbikes while raising awareness and funds to help Asian women severely affected by climate change.
